coming down from the mountain
One of our opening activities at our recent retreat was a devotion time led by David Daniel, a missionary/teacher who has been in Slovakia for many years. He shared how it was symbolic in a way that our retreat was taking place in the mountains. He pointed out the many references to the mountains in the Bible and how the mountains are often where strength, wisdom, and spiritual renewal are bestowed. He also pointed out that - eventually - one has to come down from the mountains. After having such a wonderful time, I have to admit that this process of coming down and returning to "real life" has not been an easy one. The same challenges exist as the ones we left behind. Although we return refreshed from our weekend of fellowship, it is still difficult to face these and try to see them in a more constructive way. The frustrations we are (or at least, I am) experiencing are nothing out of the ordinary. They are what we were told to expect when we attended missionary orientation, and we have been given advice as to how to handle these. Nevertheless, feelings of discouragement and inadequacy can creep in. Please keep us in your prayers. If you have time, please also visit our website - we have included the needs and the prayer requests of other missionaries there. You can visit the page at http://www.geocities.com/polishpioneers/prayerandpraise.html. Thanks.
