sloppy joes, American football, and Jon Stewart

American day was so fun!

With so many Americans in town (Jon, Jordan, Traci, Heather, and Kristen), we decided it was time for an "American day". Heather made sloppy joes and served some cranberry sauce donated by her Wisconsin supporters; I made buns for the joes and beanie weenies; and Traci brought Pepsi. Not only was lunch delicious, but the weather was gorgeous. Instead of watching a movie as planned, we decided that we should definitely get outside. It was too good to pass up! So, with Jon's Nerf football in tow, we started our walk. Heather suggested seeing if some of the boys from the orphanage would like to go with us, and so we had a few more members in our crew.

After our short walk, we met up with more of the boys and stopped to play catch. It was so much fun! Also, it was great to see my friends in action - it's amazing to see how God has blessed each one of them with different gifts. Heather has built and maintained positive relationships with these boys, encouraging them in their English skills and endeavoring to improve her Polish skills to get to know them better. She is fearless in sharing her faith and selfless in dedicating her time to those who could use her friendship. Traci is so open to people and brings a great energy to any gathering. She is wonderful at making people feel important and understood. And - of course - I think Jon is amazing. =) What stood out most for me yesterday was his creativity, love of fun, and his easygoing leadership.

After football, we headed to town for ice cream and then to the grocery store to pick up dinner supplies. We decided on spagetti. Mmm. After a while, Traci's Polish friend - Monika - joined us and we all played Candyland together while chompin' on peanut M&Ms. Though we were wiped out from our exciting day, we stayed up long enough to watch "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart. Well worth the wait - he's hilarious!

So, American day was a huge success. It was also fun because - although we were able to enjoy some "American" treats - we were able to share them with new Polish friends. What more could we ask for on a sunny Saturday? =)

And I'm glad you've found Jon Stewart sometime between 9pm and 11pm on Saturdays. haha.
